stakeholders

ease or difficulty of attracting good candidates?
Questions to consider:

your best, long service employees?
- Where have you had the
most disappointments in terms of responses?
Ideas for recruiting:
Schools
- Build relationships with
professors and placement offices… participate in college career
fairs… create a scholarship program… develop a mentor program…
contact vocational schools… offer internships or work-study
programs…
Media

when placing classified ads… radio ads… flyers… kiosks…college
posters… billboards…job boards www.bxjobs.com

Effective
Interviewing Techniques
How do you determine which candidate is the
best "fit" for the job? Read on!
Ask the Right Questions
- Ask about employment
history… starting with the applicant’s first job.
- Repeat this process with
education.
Use Open-Ended Questions
- Make sure the applicant
does most of the talking!
- Your questions should
start with: What, Where, Why, Who, How, When, & Tell Me.
Use Follow-Up Questions
- Get a complete picture
of the applicant’s strengths, weaknesses and accomplishments.
Ask Questions that Help Determine
"Fit"
- Many employees may have
the right skills but they leave a company or don’t work out because
they don’t fit the company culture.
Practice Active Listening
- Focus on the main points
- Repeat the main points
to yourself
- Summarize and clarify
what was said
- Minimize distractions
- Don’t jump to
conclusions
- Watch non-verbal cues
Use of Silence
- Do not respond instantly
to an applicant’s answer with your next question… the applicant
will probably keep talking and you can obtain additional information.
- When interviewing an
applicant, the interviewer must remember that it is illegal to
discriminate based on an applicant’s race, religion, national
origin, color, age, sex or disability.
Check References
- Do at least 2-3
reference checks.
- Make sure the
employee signs an authorization for you to do a reference check.
