MISSION STATEMENT:
The Department of Building and Zoning Services supports the safety and quality of life for the residents and visitors of the City of Columbus through the enforcement of the Columbus Building and Zoning Codes. The permitting, inspection, zoning and engineering process ensures proper land use, promotes high quality design standards as well as rehabilitation and reuse of existing city buildings. 

Functions of BZS include: building plan review and approval, permit issuance, contractor licensing/registration, building and mechanical inspection, building and zoning management.

A Building Services Review Committee has been established to provide an important city-industry forum for monitoring the department's service standards and performance levels on a regular basis.
