2009 BX Craftsmanship
Award Recipient

The Craftsman:  Gary Dean of The Superior Group, A Division Of Electrical Specialists, Inc.
His Winning Work:  The industrial electrical systems at Heartland Refinery

Electrician Gary Dean demonstrated his exceptional craftsmanship when installing the industrial electrical systems at Heartland Refinery.

Dean led a crew of 19 to complete the complex layout of control, power and communication wiring at the new plant.

Advance planning and coordination was vital to the project as the conduit racks and cable trays had to be successfully installed in the same space as the process piping.

Dean used preliminary drawings to develop a more detailed vision of the project and shared it with the other trades.

The two-acre plant was completed in two phases.  By utilizing the knowledge gained during the first phase, Dean and his crew were able to design/build the second phase before formal drawings were even available.

When designing the racks for conduit, lights and devices, Dean paid keen attention to detail in order to keep the project running smoothly and on schedule.

A member of Electrical Workers Local 683, Dean has been in the industry since 1970 and has been employed by The Superior Group for all 39 years.

This is Dean’s second Craftsmanship Award.  He was also recognized in 2004 for work at the Jackson Pike Wastewater Treatment Plant.
