2008 BX Craftsmanship
Award Recipient

The Craftsman:  Matt King of Corna Kokosing Construction Co.
His Winning Work:  Finish Carpentry at the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts

Since 1964, the BX Craftsmanship Awards Program has recognized the importance of craftspeople for the quality work they provide to the construction industry.

The finish carpentry work of Matt King and his crew of seven is on display throughout the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts.

The audience chamber required extreme attention to detail as nearly all wall caps, base and hand rails were installed on walls that were curved and elliptical, or required difficult angle cuts, miters and bevels to complete.

The parterre wall surrounding the theater seating area is an ellipse which required exact precision to fabricate on-site and install.  The proscenium canopy was installed from 26-foot scaffolding and the side walls were installed from 27-foot scissor lifts.

King worked closely with the architect and used his own experience to design and implement many of the finish details and trim interfaces required to complete the work.

King has been in the industry for 11 years, spending the last seven with Corna Kokosing Construction Co.

King is a first-time Craftsmanship Award Winner.  His carpentry work is also on display at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Reynoldsburg and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Hilliard Ward.
