2007 BX Craftsmanship Award Recipient

The Craftsman:
Greg Bryant of Columbus Heating & Ventilating Co.

His Winning Work:
Sheet metal HVAC installation at the Battelle Laboratory JM-8 project

The complex sheet metal HVAC installation at the Battelle Biological Safety Laboratory-3 in West Jefferson was done by Greg Bryant.

The work consisted of multiple systems of welded galvanized and stainless steel duct. Up to four layers of duct were present in the interstitial area. All duct runs and welds were fully inspected with 0% leakage as the acceptable standard.

Advanced HEPA filtration, air handling, exhaust and energy recovery systems were also installed. Specialized bioseal dampers were utilized for the laboratories. All of the installed systems required careful coordination between Battelle and Bryant’s crew of 16 because of the small space.

The duct was fabricated in the shop and delivered to the jobsite. The large energy recovery units were designed, fabricated and installed locally.

Bryant is a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 24 and has been employed by Columbus Heating & Ventilating Co. for 24 of his 28 years in the industry.
