2007 BX Craftsmanship Award Recipient

The Craftsman:
Jim Brennan of Speer Mechanical

His Winning Work:
Installation of mechanical piping for air conditioning at the Time Warner ATG facility

The detailed mechanical work of Jim Brennan is found in the new Time Warner ATG facility. Due to the workmanship of the welding and layout, the complicated system has a clean look and was able to fit into extremely tight spaces.

Brennan was responsible for building on the engineer’s concept to create sketches for fabrication. After the shop team crafted the pieces from his drawings, he oversaw a field crew of seven to achieve precise layout and perfect welds throughout.

Limited space for the outdoor equipment was a significant obstacle faced during the project. With his detailed eye, Brennan was able to place the equipment so it was serviceable, while meeting code requirements and allowing room for future equipment.

Brennan is a member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union 189. He has been employed by Speer Mechanical for 11 of his 20 years in the industry.

Architect: Ford & Associates Architects
Engineer: McMullen Engineering Co., Inc.
General Contractor: The Daimler Group

A first-time Craftsmanship Award recipient, Brennan began his career after finishing an apprenticeship program. His father and uncle are both retired from the industry.
