The facility is over 650,000 square feet with the majority of the work being exposed in soaring ceiling spaces and meeting collegiate and Olympic style specifications. Coordination was the most time consuming aspect of the project, with McCann attending over 200 meetings. All storm system pieces, including cast iron piping ranging in size up to 15-inches, were cut or manufactured in the field. Both buildings combined consisted of more than 28 miles of piping and 1,700 feet of custom trench systems. The most challenging phase of the project was the Aquatic Center. McCann and his crew of 37, installed trench drains with straight runs over 270-feet in length and to within 1/16 of an inch tolerance and to perfect tile lines. They installed storm systems in areas 100-feet in the air, field fabricating and welding all attachments. McCann has been employed with TP Mechanical Contractors for more than 15 years. He has been in the industry for 23 years. Architect:
Moody Nolan, Inc. McCann is a first-time Craftsmanship Award winner. He began his career in the industry after graduating early from Southeast Career Center and going to work for a friend’s father. | Back to Craftsmanship Main Page | | BX Home Page | Updated 7/24/2006 |
