Because of a large number of systems, coordination was one of the most challenging aspects of this project along with the congested conditions. The most difficult section was the attic space above the cooler/freezer area. The ceiling panels of the cooler/freezer were supported through the attic space using suspended rods attached to the I-beam structure above. These rods were spaced on 4-foot by 5-foot centers, making this space extremely tight. Running through this space are electrical conduits, HVAC ductwork, plumbing and fire suppression systems that penetrate the ceiling of the cooler into the production area below. Griffith used his skills and expertise to layout a detailed, accurate plan which allowed him to install 90% of the pipework before the cooler ceiling was installed. By finding a reference point on the ground level, measuring and using a laser, each drop was installed with 100% accuracy to his pipe runs in the attic space. Griffith has spent the last 11 of his 18 years in the industry with Mid-City Electric Co. He is a member of Electrical Workers Union Local 683. Architect:
Henden/Redmond Griffith is a first-time Craftsmanship Award winner. He has a cousin who is also an electrician and came into the industry while seeking new employment. | Back to Craftsmanship Main Page | | Back to BX Home Page | Updated 8/11/2005 |
