The Builders Exchange Cornerstone Award was created in 1954 to honor an individual who exemplifies outstanding service and commitment to the local construction industry and community. Since that time, 55 professionals have been recognized with the industry’s highest leadership honor.

Nominees are rated on several criteria including:

• their level of BX participation,

• their community involvement,

• their impact on the local commercial construction industry, 

• years of service to the industry and

• professionalism and ethics.

A past board president of both the Builders Exchange and the BX Foundation has been named the 2010 recipient of the association’s Cornerstone Award.

Gene Belew, retired president of Dynalectric Co. of Ohio, was selected for his leadership contributions to the community, the industry and the Builders Exchange.  Considered to be the highest honor presented in the central Ohio construction industry, the Cornerstone Award has been given annually since 1954.

A BX member since 1992, Belew served on the Board of Directors for eight years, serving as president in 2002.  He was also president of the Builders Exchange Foundation Board of Directors in 2006 and 2007.

The construction industry was a second career for Belew, who spent nearly 30 years with AT&T before joining Romanoff Electric (later Dynalectric Co. of Ohio) in 1990.  He retired as president of Dynalectric in December 2002.

In addition to his BX involvement, Belew is a past president of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce.  He has been active in the Boy Scouts of America, Dublin AM Rotary Club, the Old Dublin Revitalization Fund and the board of governors for The Dublin Fund. Belew was named Dublin Rotarian of the Year in 1998 and Dublin Business Man of the Year in 2000.  He continues to be active in the Dublin Baptist Church .

Belew was selected to receive the Cornerstone Award by the BX board of directors, based on an initial review by the BX Cornerstone Award Review Committee. The recipient is chosen based on achievements in the following areas: BX Involvement, Industry Involvement, Industry Impact, Community Involvement and Years of Service to the Industry

The Cornerstone Award will officially be presented to Belew on Thursday, Nov. 18 at the Aladdin Shrine Center during the 118^th BX Annual Meeting.
