that’s the driver of our 10-year vision.”

Talk about setting your sights high
-- this is the construction community envisioned by Builders
Exchange leaders in 2016:
“All industry members will be
viewed as professionals. There
will be a more cooperative design and construction process.
Bid shopping will not be practiced.
There will be open, respectful communication among all
parties in the process.
“Parents and educators will guide
children to career opportunities in construction.
The BX (and industry) will have meaningful partnerships
with owner organizations.”
There’s more, and it’s all part
of the new BX Strategic Plan.
“We want Central Ohio to be a
better place to build,” said BX Vice President Mike Tarullo (Schottenstein,
Zox & Dunn). “Part
of the Builders Exchange long-range plan is to create a ‘big,
audacious goal’ for 10 years down the road.”
Tarullo and the BX board of
directors revised the association’s Strategic Plan in January,
setting direction for planning horizons of five to ten years.
Much of the plan focuses on bringing together all those
involved in the industry – including owners, design
professionals, contractors, suppliers and service providers – to
improve communication and cooperation.
An impossible dream?
Not if the “BAG” (big audacious goal) is tackled over
time.
“After first building a vision
around the core values of the Builders Exchange, we’ve begun to
craft strategies that – year by year – can move us toward that
big, audacious goal,” Tarullo said.
“We can’t recreate a culture
overnight. But the BX
board is committed to working on a better construction community
for all its participants, sooner rather than later.”

encouraged to read the new Builders Exchange Strategic Plan on the
association’s Web site: www.bx.org.

The
Builders Exchange 10-Year Goal:
The
Builders Exchange will be the catalyst to extend the
Vision
of the BX Core Values to the construction community,
to enhance the success of the building process.
If
the BX achieves this goal…
-
Central
Ohio will be a better place to build.
-
All
industry members will be viewed as professionals.
-
There
will be open, respectful communication among all
parties in the process.
-
There
will be a more cooperative design and construction
process.
-
The
BX will be the source for industry best practice
standards.
-
Every
company involved in building in Central Ohio will
adopt the core values and best practice concepts.
-
The
best practices developed by the Central Ohio industry
will become the model for other communities.
-
There
will be fewer protracted disputes in the industry.
-
The
industry will have significantly fewer safety
violations (and therefore, OSHA citations) and
significantly reduced BWC “frequency and severity”
rates.
-
Bid
shopping will not be practiced.
-
Parents
and educators will guide children to career
opportunities in construction.
-
The
BX will have meaningful partnerships with local and
national owner organizations.
